Design Elements: Choose what gets foiled (title, author name, logo, specific artwork elements, borders, patterns).
Positioning: Precise placement of the foil elements on the front cover, spine, and/or back cover.
Foil Color: While "gold" is specified, you may have subtle variations (e.g., bright gold, antique gold, matte gold) depending on the printer's stock. (Confirming exact gold shade is crucial).
Cover Finish: Select the underlying laminate/coating for the cover under the foil:
Matte Laminate: Provides a sophisticated, non-reflective background; foil pops dramatically.
Gloss Laminate: Creates a shiny background; foil integrates differently (can be very vibrant or slightly less contrasting).
Soft Touch Laminate: Offers a velvety feel; foil provides elegant contrast.
Uncoated/Spot UV: Less common for full coverage, but possible.

Color: Choose the specific color sprayed onto the page edges (e.g., metallic gold, silver, copper, solid colors like black, red, blue, or custom-mixed colors). Crucially, ensure the printer offers spraying on paperback edges - it's less common than on hardcovers.
Coverage: Specify if the color should be sprayed on all three edges (head, tail, and fore-edge) or just specific ones (e.g., only the fore-edge).
Underlying Edge Color: If the book's text paper isn't pure white, the sprayed color result might vary slightly. Discuss paper stock with the printer.
Complexity: Simple solid colors are standard. Complex patterns or multiple colors are extremely difficult and rare on paperbacks due to production constraints.

Binding: Standard is Perfect Binding (PUR glue is more durable). Saddle-stitching is generally incompatible with sprayed edges.
Cover Stock: Choose the weight (thickness) and finish of the cover card stock (e.g., 10pt, 12pt C1S). This affects the feel and durability. Ensure the stock is suitable for foil stamping.
Interior Paper: Select the weight, brightness, finish (white/cream, smooth/vellum), and opacity of the interior pages. This impacts the sprayed edge look and feel.
Size & Trim: Specify the final dimensions of the book (e.g., 5" x 8", 6" x 9", A5).
