1. Inquiry Received
The journey begins when you reach out to us with an inquiry. Whether you're interested in creating custom hardcover books, special edition books, or unique printing features like foil stamping or sprayed edges, we welcome all requests. Our team reviews your initial message to gather all the necessary details and will promptly get back to you with the next steps.
2. Specs Confirmed and Quoted
Once we have a clear understanding of your project needs, our team will confirm the specifications and provide you with a detailed quote. This includes the following key elements:
-
Size Options: We offer a variety of sizes, from standard dimensions like 6x9" to custom sizes that suit your specific requirements.
-
Binding: Choose from a range of binding options, including hardcover, paperback, or premium bindings like leather or cloth. We’ll help you select the binding type that best complements your project.
-
Page Counting: We calculate the total number of pages based on your manuscript and any additional pages such as endpapers, title pages, or acknowledgments. This will determine the overall book thickness.
-
Inner Pages Printing Color: Whether you want black and white for a more cost-effective option or full-color printing for high-impact visuals, we provide flexible printing solutions to meet your vision.
-
Cover Finishing: We offer a range of cover finishes, from matte and gloss lamination to premium options like foil stamping, embossing, UV coating, and spot gloss. These finishes can elevate your book’s aesthetics and make it stand out.
-
Other Custom Finishes: In addition to the cover, we provide customization for edges (sprayed or gilded), custom endpapers, ribbon bookmarks, and even unique patterns or textures on the book surface to add that special touch.
-
Packaging: We understand the importance of packaging, especially for limited edition or premium projects. We offer protective packaging solutions to ensure that your books arrive in perfect condition. From branded packaging to customized boxes, we ensure a professional presentation of your product.
Our goal is to ensure that you are fully informed about the cost, options, and timeline before proceeding, so that every detail of your project is exactly as you envision.
3. Artwork Received
After the quote is accepted, the next step is to receive your artwork. You’ll send us the design files, which can include cover artwork, illustrations, and any other custom elements you wish to incorporate. To ensure the best results, we ask that the following file requirements be met:
-
File Format: We accept a variety of file formats, including PDF, AI, EPS, TIFF, and high-resolution JPEG. PDF is preferred for its ability to retain the layout and high-quality image details.
-
Resolution: For optimal print quality, all artwork should be provided at a resolution of at least 300 DPI (dots per inch). This ensures that images remain crisp and clear when printed at full size.
-
Color Mode: All files should be created in CMYK color mode, as this is the color space used for printing. RGB files (used for digital screens) may appear different in print and should be converted to CMYK before submission.
-
Bleed and Safety Margins: Please include a bleed area of at least 0.125 inches (3mm) around the edges of your design, especially for full-bleed covers or pages. The bleed ensures that there are no white borders after trimming. Additionally, make sure all important text and elements are within a safe margin of at least 0.25 inches (6mm) from the edge.
-
Fonts: All fonts used in your design should be embedded or outlined to avoid any font mismatches or substitutions during the printing process. If you’re using custom fonts, please include the font files as well.
-
Artwork Size: Ensure that the dimensions of your artwork match the final trim size of your book. This includes both the cover and any internal illustrations or designs.
-
Layers and Transparency: If your design includes transparency effects or layers, please provide a flattened version or ensure that transparency is handled correctly in your file. This avoids any printing issues and ensures that your design comes out as intended.
-
Cover and Spine Design: If you are creating a custom hardcover with a spine, make sure to include the spine width calculation in the design. We will help you determine this if necessary, but we need the dimensions to align perfectly.
Once we receive your artwork, our team will review the files to ensure compatibility with our printing process. If any adjustments are needed, we’ll notify you promptly and work together to make the necessary changes.
4. Order Confirmed
Once the artwork is received and finalized, we move forward with confirming your order. At this point, we ensure that all the project details are locked in—specifications, pricing, and the final artwork. You will receive a confirmation from us, and the order is officially placed in the system for production.
5. E-Proof Approved
Before we begin production, we provide an e-proof (digital proof) of your design for approval. This proof includes a virtual representation of the final product, showing how the book will look once printed. It’s a critical step to ensure all elements, such as colors, layout, and design, are correct. Once you approve the e-proof, we move on to the next phase. Any changes or revisions needed will be handled before proceeding to production.
6. Production
With the e-proof approved, production begins. We utilize state-of-the-art printing technology and premium materials to ensure that every detail of your book is brought to life. Our production team meticulously handles each step of the printing process, including printing, binding, and applying any special finishes, such as foil stamping, embossing, or sprayed edges.
7. Quality Check
Quality is our top priority. After the production phase, each book goes through a rigorous quality check. Our team inspects every detail, from the print quality to the binding and finishes. We check for any imperfections, ensuring that the final product meets our high standards and your expectations. Only books that pass this strict quality check proceed to the next stage.
8. Packaging
Once your books have passed quality control, they are carefully packaged. We understand the importance of proper packaging to ensure that your books arrive safely and in perfect condition. Each order is securely packed with protective materials to prevent any damage during transit. If you’ve chosen premium packaging options, such as custom boxes or protective wraps, we take extra care to ensure they are perfectly crafted.
Here are the types of packaging options available:
-
Standard Packaging: For regular orders, we provide sturdy cardboard boxes with bubble wrap or foam padding to protect the books from external damage. This packaging is designed for safe transport and is perfect for standard orders.
-
Custom Boxes: For clients who want an elevated, professional presentation, we offer custom boxes that can be designed to fit your specific needs. These boxes can feature your branding, logo, and special designs, making them perfect for premium editions or high-end collections. Custom boxes offer a higher level of protection and enhance the unboxing experience.
-
Protective Wraps: Books can be individually wrapped in protective materials like kraft paper, tissue paper, or shrink-wrap. This extra layer of protection ensures that your books are shielded from moisture, dust, and minor impact during shipping. For high-end editions, custom wraps with embossed logos or foil prints can be used for a more luxurious look.
-
Foam Inserts: For delicate or high-value books, foam inserts are used inside the packaging to further secure each book in place, preventing any movement that could cause damage. This is especially useful for fragile covers or special editions with intricate designs.
-
Gift Packaging: For special occasions, such as corporate gifts or luxury editions, we offer gift packaging. This may include decorative wrapping, custom gift boxes, and branded ribbons, giving the books an elegant and polished appearance, perfect for high-end gifting.
-
Eco-Friendly Packaging: We are committed to sustainability, and we offer eco-friendly packaging options made from recycled or biodegradable materials. This option is perfect for clients who want to reduce their environmental footprint while still ensuring their books are safely packaged.
-
Slipcase: To enhance the collectible value and provide superior protection for premium editions, we offer a custom slipcase. This durable and elegantly designed case encases the book, shielding it from light and dust while presenting it as a distinguished keepsake, ideal for limited editions and classic collections.
